Did you know that the Berkeley County Museum is staffed almost entirely by volunteers? The knowledge and expertise of our volunteers enriches and deepens the impact of the museum and volunteers help create memorable experiences for our visitors. We’re truly a community-run enterprise.

We have a group of dedicated individuals that are passionate about Berkeley County - join our volunteers today!

There are many opportunities available, from gift shop management, to outdoor maintenance, to visitor services. We ask that volunteers cover at least one three-hour shift each week, though we can work with you. Volunteer positions are available six days a week. No history experience is required - we’ll train you. Volunteer applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Docents/visitor services are currently our most needed positions. Volunteer docents operate the Museum’s front desk. Docents greet visitors, run the gift shop, and answer questions about exhibits and the area. Their presence allows staff members to do behind-the-scenes work. Docents are the face of the Museum! This position requires enthusiasm and a talent for communication with visitors of all kinds.

A volunteer sign-up form can be found here. If you are interested in joining the volunteers of the Berkeley County Museum, please fill out the form, drop in, or call 843-899-5101. To start an internship, please contact us directly. We look forward to working with you!
